At around 2 a.m. Dec. 19, Monroe Police responded to a Doris Drive home on a report of a stolen car. They determined that a car had been stolen and a second car had been burglarized. The owner's wallet and personal identification were stolen from the car that was burglarized, police said.
During the same time frame, a stolen car from Derby was found down the road. The stolen Monroe car was later found abandoned in Shelton, where another car was stolen a short distance away. This is part of an ongoing pattern recently occurring throughout the state, police said.
The Monroe car owner later reported multiple fraudulent charges had been made to their credit cards, totaling about $2,000.
Monroe detectives obtained surveillance footage of the suspects making the fraudulent purchases, and were able to identify them with the help of New Haven Police. A warrant was issued for the arrest of one of the juveniles, who was taken into custody at juvenile court on Tuesday.
The juvenile was charged with two counts of illegal use of credit card, receiving goods from the illegal use of credit card, third-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree identity theft, sixth-degree larceny, and a number of conspiracy charges.
Police said that detectives are continuing to investigate and that more arrests are expected.
